How was Marie Curie first to win two Nobel Prizes?

The 18th and 19th century was great for us. It was the period when many great scientists were born. The 19th century also witnessed the first step towards the solution for many mysteries, i.e "The String Theory". Well, let's talk about this theory some other day. Let's concentrate on "How was Marie Curie first to win two Nobel Prizes?" Let's explore!

Marie Curie, one of the greatest scientists who ever lived, was born in Poland on November 7th, 1867. Marie Curie married an eminent scientist Pierre Curie. After Henri Becquerel discovered the radioactive properties of uranium in 1896, Marie Curie started researching this phenomenon. Later, Marie and Pierre together discovered two new radioactive elements, polonium and radium. In 1903, Marie shared the Nobel Prize for physics with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel.

After Pierre's death due to an accident, she continued her work with radioactivity and in 1911, was awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry. She became the first scientist to win two Nobel Prize and also the only person to have won Nobel Prizes in two different science fields. Marie Curie died on July 4th 1934, after a prolonged illness.

Marie Curie's daughter Irene and son-in-law Frederic Joliot followed in her footsteps in radiochemistry, and also received the Nobel Prize for chemistry, in 1935.

She in indeed a great and inspirational scientist!
