Why do we cry?
When I was a baby I used to cry! Well everyone of us used to....It might be either to draw attention or to communicate or even something else...Anyway lets focus only on the topic! We all would probably cry seeing some scenes of some movies...right? Well why are tears usually associated with sadness?
To start with we all have three different types of tears...Basal, Reflex and emotional! Tears help maintain healthy eyes.
For instance, basal tears flow continuously from the lacrimal glands, or the tiny almond-shaped structure in the inside corner of the eye. When you blink, basal tears spread, clean and lubricate the eyes. This makes the eyes outer surface smooth.
Moreover, reflex tears, or those that happen unconsciously, help clear the eyes of irritants, including specks of dust and when a knife slices a raw onion. When this happens eyes send message to the brain that it needs more lubrication hence producing more tears and then you cry...
Emotions can also trigger tears in humans. These emotions activate the autonomic nerve system....It is actually involuntary, the one which you can't control! This causes the heart rate to quicken, sweat to be released and make your eyes moist and eventually cry! These tears contain the stress hormones....These hormones make us cry!
Well it is unknown why our body responds in this way to intense emotions! But one thing for sure crying takes away the stress hormone....So next time you feel like crying....Just cry in silence....After all it reduces stress!
