How were pigeons used as carriers of messages?

It is definitely known to most of us through comics, anime and so on....the use of pigeons during ancient times! As far as the historians are concerned it's not a myth....But how were these birds used as carriers of messages? Let's explore about it in today's post.

Around 3000 years, King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba exchanged messages by carrier pigeons. These are specially prepared pigeons which fill find their way back home when they are released. The Egyptians and the Persians first used carrier pigeons 3000 years ago.

First, an important message would be written on a piece of paper. Then, that paper was neatly folded, and secured in a small canister which is attached to pigeon's leg. Once the pigeon was released, it would fly back to its home behind the lines, where the message would be read, and transmitted to the proper military planners.

Probably the most famous of all the carrier pigeons was one named Cher Ami. He flew 12 important missions to deliver messages. Perhaps the most important message he carried was the one that saved the lives of 200 American Soldiers, though he was badly wounded by enemy fires.

Ever wondered this topic would have this long and old story behind it...? Well, that's what my blog is all about...
